A new Defibrillator for Kimpton

Richard Kimpton with Mark King of Oliver King Foundation handing over the defibrillator

We are pleased to announce that we now have a lifesaving defibrillator in our offices, the defibrillator will be shared between ourselves and 3 other companies in our vicinity. The defibrillator was provided by the Oliver King Foundation who are a fantastic charity, doing great work in making sure that defibrillator becomes more widely available throughout the UK, if you would like to find out more about The Oliver King foundation then please visit their website here. If you would also like to contribute to this fantastic charity then please visit their donation page here. The picture below shows Sharon Morgan from the Kimpton team being presented with the defibrillator by Mark King.

Every minute without CPR and defibrillation reduces a victim’s survival rate by 7 to 10 percent and If a defibrillator is used within 3-5 minutes of cardiac arrest, survival rates jump from 6 percent to 74 percent. Stats like this show the importance of investing in this life-saving equipment and we strongly urge that anyone who’s reading this article goes out and gets a defibrillator before it’s too late and the worst happens.

It doesn’t matter how healthy you are a cardiac arrest could happen to anyone, an example of this can be taken from an FA Cup quarter-final match in which a seemingly healthy footballer by the name of Fabrice Muamba suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on the pitch, luckily for Muamba the stadium he was playing in, White Hart Lane was kitted out with defibrillation equipment and plenty of people who were first aid trained and this was the reason that he was able to survive. Muamba was very fortunate but he is part of just a small number of people who survive from a sudden cardiac arrest, according to a report by the NHS in 2013 out of 28,000 out of hospital cardiac arrests that emergency services tried to resuscitate just 8.6% survived.

The team received full training from the Oliver King Foundation, but as a backup, there is an instruction poster on the wall nearby.
