    The Project

Kimpton Energy Solutions were employed by The National Trust to provide the complete design and installation for the first commercial Marine Source Heat Pump to be installed in the UK.

Providing 300kW of heat energy to serve the Plas Newydd Country House Estate, Kimpton were responsible for installing the pipework to extract the marine water from the Menai Strait, which is pumped 30metres up the cliff face to the 4No. heat pumps located in the estates plant room within the Stable Block.

Pre-insulated pipe then carries the generated heat 100m to the Country House itself where it is used to heat the building and provide domestic hot water. This ground breaking project has helped to save the Trust £70,000 per annum by not consuming 138,000 litres
    of oil per year.

    Key Statement

“This project has seen a number of firsts – the first marine source heat pump of its type in the UK, the biggest at 300kW and the first in open sea rather than a harbour. What has been done is genuinely cutting-edge and I have nothing but praise for Kimpton and Stiebel Eltron who were faced with the unique challenge of designing and installing the heat pump. Considering the scale of the project, everything has gone remarkably smoothly.”
