Kimpton has won the M&E design and installation contract for
the new 141-bedroom Travelodge hotel on Liverpool's waterfront.
Located on The Strand, adjacent to Liverpool One, the city's
thriving retail destination, the new Travelodge is being
constructed on the site of a derelict former car park and is
expected to boost the Liverpool economy by around £1.5 million a
year. Kimpton's installation of the M&E services for the
ten-storey building is due to start on site in March and the
company will have to overcome the accessibility challenges of the
development, which is being constructed on a very tight site, in a
built-up area that sits on one of Liverpool's main
through-routes.
The design and installation project will include heating to all
bedrooms, air conditioning and ventilation in the public areas,
including the hotel's reception and café/bar areas, plus all the
development's domestic water and drainage services. Kimpton has
also designed the ventilation provision for the kitchen and
bedrooms which comprises a natural air intake and mechanical
extraction system. The company will also design and install all the
electrical services for the building, including the fire alarm
system, the disabled refuge system, lightning protection and the
UPS system for the lifts.
Kimpton's Managing Director, Richard Kimpton, commented: "We
have an excellent track record in the hotel sector and have wide
ranging experience on similar schemes stretching back a number of
years. That expertise, combined with our experience of
multi-storey offices and accommodation blocks in city locations
means that we are well-placed to tackle the challenges of this
scheme. We bring quality and attention to detail to
everything we do, so, while Travelodge may offer budget
accommodation, anyone that stays in the Travelodge on Liverpool's
Strand can be confident of a five-star M&E installation."
Marcus Worthington, the developer and main contractor on the
scheme has a long-standing relationship with Kimpton, having worked
with the building services firm on previous developments. A
spokesperson from Marcus Worthington said: "This is a very high
profile project in Liverpool that will transform a neglected corner
of the waterfront to ensure that it is lifted to the standard of
surrounding buildings. All the contractors on the job have
been handpicked for their experience, the skills and knowledge they
can bring to the project and their proven ability to deliver a
quality result on time and within budget. Kimpton ticks all
of these boxes which is why we were confident in appointing
them."
The scheme has been designed by Manchester-based architects
Leach Rhodes Walker.
